The Body Combinations video discusses how the body has patterns present within its structure which, when followed specifically, allow the body to unlock itself naturally. When the body unlocks itself, patients respond quickly with lasting results.
The Our Feet video emphasizes the importance of proper foot mechanics in the absorption of force from the gait cycle (walking cycle). The rigid surfaces we now encounter are in sharp contrast to the rocks and dirt landscape we used to walk on. Repetitive heel strikes on flat hard surfaces cause trauma to our spine resulting in compression of spinal bones and discs. We can’t avoid concrete and asphalt, but we can restore normal function and shock absorption to our feet through the Gaitllink process.
The Front of Pelvis video discusses a joint located in the front of the pelvis which is called the pubic symphysis. The pubic symphysis provides forward and backward motion of the pelvic bones when we walk. Unfortunately, the pubic symphysis becomes “locked” in most of us causing stress to our lower back and hip joints. Dr. Swanson feels this may be the cause of hip degeneration leading to hip replacement surgery. Using the Gaitlink procedure, the motion of the pubic symphysis can be restored permanently.
The Hamstring / Groin injuries video provides insight as to how dysfunction of the pubic symphysis may cause injury to both the hamstring and groin muscles during sporting activities. The attachment of each muscle is next to the pubic symphysis on the pelvis. The other end of each muscle attaches to the leg. When the pubic symphysis becomes locked, the corresponding muscles no longer track with the moving leg, which makes the muscles more susceptible to injury. Dr. Swanson believes that restoring normal motion to the pubic symphysis through the Gaitlink process may decrease the occurrence of hamstring and groin injuries.
Each time we take a step, the weight of our body travels up our leg at approximately 200 mph. This occurs an average of 10,000 times a day. This means our bodies must absorb over 700 tons of pressure from the surfaces we walk on. Today, these surfaces are mostly asphalt and concrete.
I believe this “hardscape” is responsible for compression and degeneration of joints throughout the body. I feel special attention should be given initially to the individual joints of the feet which are responsible for surface adaptation and shock absorption. This provides the foundation for a durable structure.
I created Gaitlink as a result of a discovery I made in 1998. I found there are patterns related to the gait cycle present in the body. If I applied Chiropractic adjustments delivered in a specific combination, the body would unlock itself within these patterns. This was an extraordinary discovery. Finding the body has underlying combinations which cause it to unlock itself has potential to transform Chiropractic practice.
Application of the Gaitlink method involves a twelve treatment progression which may be completed within three weeks. This process does not require repetitive momentum commonly used in chiropractic treatment programs. Visits may be months apart and not influence outcomes. Patients show a decrease in recovery time with an early return to active lifestyles.

Dr. Andrew Swanson graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic -West in Sunnyvale, California in 1986. He attended post graduate school at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington in 1979.
Dr. Swanson is board certified in Washington State and California. He went on to study with the Motion Palpation Institute and with his friend, Dr. Ken Stillwell, former instructor for MPI.
His specialty in motion palpation and extremity adjusting led to the development of the Gaitlink technique.
Dr. Swanson is currently in active practice in Kingston located in Kitsap County, northwest of Seattle in Washington State. He has worked with professional, collegiate and Olympic athletes using the Gaitlink approach.
